    Swiitch is not designed for children. In fact, Swiitch uses the Institute of Medicine of the National Academies equations for calculating energy requirements. These equations are not suitable for people under the age of 19. A follow-up with a health care professional is recommended.

  • How will your meal plan be determined?

    Swiitch will determine your eating plan by considering several factors that impact your energy balance. Your age, gender, current anthropometric data (weight and height) and ethnicity will all be considered. This data will then be used to determine your estimated energy needs using formulas provided by the Institute of Medicine of the National Academies.

    Your physical activity level and weight goals (loss, gain or maintenance) will also be considered. Then, Swiitch takes care of transforming everything into units and distributes them throughout your day in order to respect your dietary balance. Ingenious, isn’t it?

  • Can I change my meal plan?

    Absolutely! Your meal plan can be modified at any time according to your needs. Swiitch will provide you with a basic plan, it’s up to you if you want to adjust it or not!

  • Do I have to follow a meal plan?

    Not at all! Swiitch will provide you with a basic plan, but you are free to follow it. You will be able to record everything you eat, even if it is beyond the recommendations of your meal plan. In any case, Swiitch will give you a good overview of your diet and can help you target areas for improvement.

    Nutritional values for foods, ingredients or meals in the Swiitch mobile app come from credible sources such as the Canadian Nutrient File from the Government of Canada, FoodData Central from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and data provided by restaurants and products on their official websites.Got Lactase?   • Is there a wide selection of foods?

    Yes, it is! With over 6,000 foods available, you’re sure to find what you’re looking for. In addition, Swiitch offers general foods as well as specific brands. This way, you can estimate your diet as accurately as possible!

  • Can I add a food, ingredient or meal that is not listed?

    Currently, it is not possible to add a food that is not in the Swiitch database. The database will be continuously updated and enriched by the collaboration of users. You can suggest the addition of a new food by writing to your Swiitch coach in the “Contact Swiitch” section located in the main menu. When submitting an idea, be as specific as possible. For example, you can quote a brand name, provide the UPC barcode, copy and paste a link to a product sheet, website or recipe, or detail the information on the Nutrition Facts table, making sure to include the serving size. If it is a homemade recipe, you can send the complete recipe.

  • Is it possible to add macronutrients (or Swiitch units) directly?

    Yes, this option was created for the nutrition pros. If you want, you can add Swiitch units from different categories. This will allow you to bypass the food search. If this sounds complicated, don’t worry, there are other options available to you!

  • What do the abbreviations mean?

    P = Proteins

    How can I Swiitch?

  • What is a Swiitch unit?

    Swiitch is based on a concept of carbohydrate, protein and fat units. To simplify the exchange between foods in certain categories, they must be comparable on the same scale.

    For example, one Swiitch unit of F (Fruit), FGE (Starch and Whole Grain), PLA (Dairy and Alternatives) or AP (Pleasure Food) is worth 5 g of carbohydrate. These foods are therefore exchangeable. One unit of L (Vegetables) is also worth 5 g of carbohydrates. In addition, one Swiitch unit of F (Fat) is worth 5 g of fat while one Swiitch unit of P (Protein) is worth 5 g of protein.

  • Why Swiitch?

    Swiitcher is used to restore balance to your meal plan when you eat more or less than the total number of units recommended by your plan. Swiitch does not restrict you. Instead, it allows you to modulate your diet as you wish!

    For example, would you like to have a glass – or two – of wine with your dinner? You can swipe your F (Fruit) and PLA (Dairy and Alternatives) units from your lunch and move them to your dinner in the form of PA (Pleasure Foods). Got a big brunch on your schedule this weekend? Move some Swiitch units around as you like! That way, you’ll always stay on track with your balanced diet. Ready to Swiitch?

  • What categories can I swiitch?

    P (Protein) and F (Fat) units can only be swapped with units of the same category. So you can swap protein units with other proteins and fat units with other fats.

    For carbohydrates, Swiitch lets you choose which type you want to eat! You’ll notice that the carbohydrate tablet itself is made up of 4 smaller coloured tablets that are actually the four colours of the following groups: FGE (starches and whole grains), F (fruits), PLA (dairy and alternatives), and AP (pleasure foods). These groups are exchangeable since they are all worth 5 g of carbohydrates.

    You will also understand that the L (Vegetables) units also offer 5 g of carbohydrates. However, carbohydrate exchanges with L (Vegetable) units are not allowed. Why not? Because of the low energy density of most vegetables. Vegetables contain much less carbohydrate than other categories that offer 5 g of carbohydrate when compared on a weight basis. It would take a lot of vegetables to replace a small amount of starch, fruit or dairy products. So take advantage of the power of vegetables and eat as much as you can!

  • What if I don't consume all the Swiitch units?

    If you don’t consume all the Swiitch units in your plan, that’s okay! The units will still be available for distribution in a future Swiitch. You will have to remember that you still have some units available from before. During a Swiitch, you can distribute units from the same day, from the past or from the future!

    Unused Swiitch units allow you to have a pool of units to distribute on future occasions when you expect to exceed your plan, such as at a party, a restaurant meal or a drunken night out.

  • How to balance the surplus units consumed?

    If you have consumed more units than suggested in your plan at a meal, you have two options. You can leave it as is. Eating should never become a restrictive act. These extra units consumed will affect your graph, which you can see in your diary. You can then make choices accordingly or make a Swiitch allowing you to balance your day.
